Business

The Business Department of Astor College is dedicated to preparing students for a rapidly changing world by expanding each student’s knowledge and skills in business and information technology. The principles of business students learn underpin every organisation , from presenting positive marketing messages and developing effective interpersonal skills to operating within a legal framework and accurate accounting.  We believe the knowledge, skills and ethics taught are necessary for active, life-long participation in a global, informational society—fostering success in one’s personal life, further study and career choice.

Creative iMedia

Creative iMedia, Intelligent Mediation Environment for Digital Interactive Advertising, will equip you with a range of creative media skills and provide opportunities to develop, in context, desirable, transferable skills such as research, planning of pre-production documents and reflection in the form of reviews, working with others and communicating creative concepts effectively. Through the use of these skills, you will ultimately be creating fit-for-purpose creative media products in line with vocational practices.

ICT and Computer Science

We believe in our learners abilities and strive to provide them with the skills and knowledge which will be a fundamental tools used by everyone by the middle of the 21st Century. Just like reading, writing and arithmetic.

Our mission is to make sure that our learners develop the skills and knowledge in working with real-world programming and to provide a good understanding of the fundamental principles of computing which include computational thinking, a focus on cyber security, abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms, and data representation. They will analyse problems in computational terms through practical experience of solving such problems, including designing, writing and debugging programs. 

By the end of their academy all learners will understand the components that make up digital systems and how they communicate with one another and with other systems. They will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to deal with the real world of digital technology to the individual and to wider society and apply mathematical skills relevant to computer science.

BTEC Creative Digital Media Production

About the course

Creative Digital Media Production is an exciting hands-on course aimed at students that have an interest in practical media and working in the creative media sector. Students will complete a wide range of projects that could eventually lead to further educational study or employment in; film and television, sound editing and recording and print-based media.

This practical course teaches students not only how to create a final product but also the stages that lead up the creation of a final product through research tasks and written assignments.

A wide range of units are to be completed that give student's knowledge in the following creative media areas:

  • Film Production
  • Single Camera Techniques
  • Film Editing
  • Sound Editing
  • Sound Recording

 

What could this qualification lead to?

Former media students have progressed to university to study a wide range of subjects and many now have successful careers in media related employment including news reports, TV producers, journalists and public relations. However, it's also a great course if you don’t want to go onto university because it helps you develop key skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, including effective communication, project management and team work.
