The planned curriculum is based on the National Curriculum of Core and Foundation Subjects:
All students follow courses provided by these areas throughout their 11-16 education. In Years 10 and 11, English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, Religious Education, PSHE, Work Related Learning and Enterprise are compulsory. Careers Education and Guidance and Citizenship are delivered as part of the PSHE programme.
In addition, all students choose 4 subjects from a broad range of subjects on offer.
Aspects of information and Communication Technology and Personal, Social, Careers and Health Education are delivered as part of all subjects in addition to their delivery as a discrete subject. All appropriate National Curriculum themes are given full coverage in the taught curriculum and through a programme of curriculum enrichment which is achieved through community involvement, use of conference days and activity weeks, concentrating on a single or group of related themes.
Throughout the curriculum a student’s progress is monitored through the use of Academic Reviews. These reviews are produced termly and assess a student’s level of achievement when judged against their measured potential. The potential is measured through prior attainment and standardised tests.
The curriculum is delivered in 50 1 hour lessons per fortnight:
