Owen D (Year 11) and David C (Year 10) are just about to embark on the performance of a lifetime as they have been selected to perform in the 'Matthew Bourne' touring company of 'Lord of the Flies'. It is an Arts Council program in collaboration with Re:Bourne Education program and has been rolled out in various cities across the country with this one performing at the Marlowe in September. Local schools have been contacted and young boys have been invited to audition for a place.
Over 600 pupils auditioned which was then narrowed down to a final 20. David and Owen participated in 2 workshops, a final audition and a call back before Owen was finally cast in the show primarily, with David as an understudy. Both boys, who are currently members of the in-house dance company 'Rebound' stated 'It's an absolute dream come true. We study Matthew Bourne for our GCSE course, but now we're actually going to be learning and performing his choreography. Its an amazing opportunity and we can't wait to start rehearsals next week'.
Mrs Chamberlain, Director of Performing Arts at Astor College said 'We are immensely proud of the students for their hard work and dedication and look forward to watching them perform in September'. The show will be performed at the Marlowe Theatre from September 24th-27th 2014.
