U14 Girl's Cup Run Continues

Game of the Millenium!

This wasn't just a great game but the greatest game!

On a windy night in October the U14 Pink Ladies rose to new heights in the 2nd round of the Kent Cup against a well organised Thanet side - Dane Court, winning on penalties after extra time and a thrilling come back of epic proportions.

The visiting yellows started briskly and before Astor had barely touched the ball had a kick deflected off one of their own to put Dane Court 1-0 up. It took a debut goal from our own midfield terrier - Tasha 'Smitty' Smith to claw it back 10 minutes later to put us back on level terms.

Although the defence of Ellis TT (Tackler Turner!), 'Amy' Dyer, Jazz 'hoof it' Hogben and 'Speedy' James worked their socks off with ferocious tackling the yellow team prevailed and were 3-1 up at half-time and then 4-1 up just 5 minutes in to the second half.

The game ebbed and flowed with 'Reidy' in goal keeping out many long distance efforts as Dane Court tested the top of the goal repeatedly. Shannon on the left side put in some big block tackles that could only have been beaten by the opposition losing a leg, the midfield of Erin and Keyannah ran miles both in pursuit and attack and then came the breakthrough with just 10 minutes remaining.

Morgan's soaring cross from the corner richocheted off the far post and crept over the line. Minutes later Skye accurately slotted one in the near corner to bring the score back to 4-3 and then another debut goal from Erin 'snip snip' Wallace forced the game into extra time. Extra time provided no extra goals so it came down to a penalty shoot out!

Goalkeeper 'Reidy' stepped up to the spot to take Astor's first penalty, cooly slotting it in the net. A decisive score as she immediately saved the first Dane Court penalty, and then the next, and then the next - in fact Dane court failed to beat her from the spot! Just as well as the Astor strike force had also failed to find the back of the net despite Lauren nearly trying to take one of their penalty kicks!

Congratulations to the U14 side and good luck in the next round.

Next game is Astor vs St Edmunds in the league.
